Chapter 4

Cora

"You met who?" Gaped Drake when Soliel and Ciel were recounting what happened around the world.
"I already told you," teased Soliel "The leader of the South American Rebels." Ciel and Soliel are former bounty hunters, but quit a while back. Then they started a group of rebels. Just normal kids that need somewhere to go and be safe, but also some trained assassins in the mix. But they all look out for each other, like a family. Soon, it spread across the country, continent, and the whole world. And they're on our side. I thought. Bonus. You know, as opposed to them being indifferent about what's happening to us.
Soliel stuck her tongue out at Drake, "Man, she's good," Ace whispered to me and I snickered, "She can't even see him."
Ciel rolled her eyes, "Yeah, and all the other Rebel Team Leaders, who work under us!" She sighed, "Now that we're all clear on that, let's move on. Cora, would you like to bring them up to date?"
Yeah, dump it all on me, wouldja? I thought at Ciel, but I started retelling the story we'd agreed on. "You guys already know that Lily's missing, right? But she's been gone for a while. Ciel and I have our suspicions."
Drake's eyes were wide, Ace was staring at me and Ciel intently. Soliel was just wandering around aimlessly.
"Whenever she's gone, it's usually for six to eight days, and now it's been about the same time now, and she never tells anyone beforehand. I was questioning, but Ciel connected it."
"Four or five days is the average time for going by foot through the forest to the closest town." Continued Ciel. "And one or two days to be picked up and flown to a destination, and flown back to the town."
"In a helicopter, right?" Clarified Ace, ever so helpfully.
"Well, duh!" I muttered a reply.
"Just checking," Ace muttered back. Soliel rolled her eyes, but I could see her holding in her laughter.
"We think someone's been picking her up. They aren't on our side," I said, staring them down. "And neither is Lily."

*****
After spending an hour for debating, and finally deciding to go looking for Lily, to get some answers, we head off to try and get some sleep, but then we realise it's probably better to stick together for the time being, so Ace, Drake, Ciel, Soliel and I find our respective sleeping branches in the multi-purpose ceiling of our tree house, and they manage to catch a few Zs, but my sleep, well, let's just say it wasn't very restful.
Just when I though everyone had gone to sleep, "Can't sleep?" Ace's voice asked me from the shadows of the branches on the other side of the tree house. I got up from the fork of two branches that I was lying in, and leapt from branch to over to where Ace's voice was coming from. "Me neither," He said, most likely because he took me coming over as a no.
"What's keeping you awake?" I asked him, pitching my voice low, as so not to wake anyone else.
"I don't know, I just can't fall asleep. I mean, you just dumped something really big on us. It's really unsettling."
"I know, and we're going to get some answers. Lily can't hide from us forever, she'll have to come out sooner or later, and it's going to be on our terms."
"Just don't do anything too reckless," He said, "Good night,"
When he thought I was out of earshot, I heard him mumble "I don't know what I'd do without you..."

Chapter 3

Geez, could this get any harder? This place is like a maze! I thought pushing my way through the brambles of the forest. Cora must be freaking. I thought sarcasticaly, rolling  my eyes, As if I care! I shivered, the cold biting me through my skirt and T-shirt. God, why did I have to be the one to act like such a freaking girl?!
     My stomach grumbled. Loud.
When did I last eat? I thought groggily. Yesterday? The day before? I don't know. I looked around as if like magic a fridge would turn up. One didn't, and I didn't want to freeze, so I kept moving. If I could have food or warmth, which would I choose? I thought, trying to keep myself occupied. Warmth. Definitely warmth, because I can go for at least a week without food and keep moving, but I would freeze in this weather in that time.
"Who am I kidding? I'm not gonna get either out here, but it's only gonna be four or five days." Great. Now I'm talking to myself. "Could this get any worse?" Yes, it could. And, because we all know bad luck loves me, it started to rain. Unfortunately. And it wasn't just one of those warm summer drizzles, either. This was an all-out thunderstorm-- black rumbling clouds, huge raindrops, bright lightning, and I could swear I was smelling smoke. Maybe it's just me.
"What time is it?" I wondered, squinting with my hand over my eyes to the sky. And if you thought I could see the sun to gauge the time, go give your head a shake. "Shelter time," I muttered, rubbing rain out of my eyes. "I just need to find a thicket... Aha!" It was perfect. Well, as perfect as it could be out here. Mostly sheltered from the rain, soft-ish bed of dried pine needles, a stream nearby with fresh water, and even several fish. I looked at the fish hungrily, licking my lips. I rushed to find a long, straight stick and take out one of the many daggers I have hidden all over me, for situations like this. I set to work on sharpening one end of the stick to make a spear. After a few hungry minutes, I finished my spear and started to work on a fire and a spit to cook the fish on, if I catch it. I finished that, I went hunting for the fish.
All I could find were small fish, so I went back to check on the fire, to make sure it wouldn't spread at all, then headed up stream. Thankfully, when I found a spot, the storm had died down, and it was only a drizzle. Also, the water had calmed.
I had found a large pool of water, with a waterfall splashing into it, and what looked like an opening in the rock behind it. I scanned the surrounding trees, and listened carefully for any signs of people. When I found none, and no fish, I climbed up the rocks a few metres, stripped off my clothes and let my long blond hair down, and dove into the dark mysterious depths of the water.

Chapter 2

"I came, as you commanded." A voice faking confidence said.
"What do you have to report?"  Came a quiet and musical voice from the shadows, but you could hear the insanity behind it.
"All immediate threats have been eliminated. And if I might add, the clone is nearly done."
"Good. Continue as you have been."
A swish of blonde hair, a grunt and a string of muttered swearing, and the informant, guard and prisoner were gone.

* * * * *

"Craaaap," I groaned. "Do we really need to fix all this?" I had just woken up with a massive headache, and our treehouse was trashed. Drake and Cora didn't appear to hear me. "Don't ignore me!" and picked up  yet another branch. "Geez,
"Okay then, who were those people?"
"We want to know too," Replied Cora "I was just walking through the doorway when the helicopter--"
     "Helicopter?!"
"Don't interrupt, Ace." scolded Drake, then addressing Cora "Please continue."
"As I was saying, the helicopter blades were spinning fast and too close to the tree, so it broke some branches and started a mini-tornado, and even more branches came in, and one pinned you down, but protected you a bit. By the way, how do you feel?"
"Just thinking about it hurts," I muttered, a little uncomfortable.

"Okay, I think we're done for today, guys!" called out Cora.
"Finally," groaned Drake "Are you trying to send me to an early grave?"
"Yes, now shut up and move, Drake." complained Ace from behind him.
"Hey, did you guys just hear something?"
"No," responded Drake and Ace gave Cora a questioning look. "Why?
"I just thought I heard something in the branches outside." Cora whipped her head to one side. "Okay, I know I heard it that time."
"Yeah I heard it too." Ace sounded nervous.
"Yeah, me too!" came a light voice from above their heads.
"Shi--!!" Exclaimed Ace and Drake at the same time, but Cora cut them off with a feirce glare.
"TWINS!" I yelled, another voice from above them, and then a dark shape, me, dropped to the ground beside Drake, landing lightly. "Woaaahh, I've never seen twins before." I said longingly, but still in my bubbly voice, and I started poking Drake.
"Hey, Ceil! Is that your accomplice?" Called Cora
Ceil dropped down from her perch too. "Yep! It's Soliel, my little sister."
"Uh, and how old is she?!" Drake demanded, still being poked. I giggled from behind him.
"She's eleven, but she acts like a two year old." Responded Ciel.
Ace looked confused, "Wait, how could you have not seen a twin before? Haven't you been, like, all over the world?"
That stopped my poking. I turned around, angry, but not with anyone in particular, and started to walk away, when Ciel glared at me. I could feel her gaze like she was burning a hole through my head. She thought they should know.
"I'm blind." I said flatly. "I have been for a while. No biggie."
     Liar.

Chapter 1

Cora

I'm hungry, was my first thought when I woke up that morning. I leaped out of bed, which was on a platform about 2 and a half metres in the air, to the ground, rolled to break my fall, sprang back up on my feet and trotted to the kitchen. Arrgh, I thought while rummaging through the cuboards. Where's all the food!? Oh. There it is. I found a bowl and glass of water, and ate my cereal dry. Hey, it's better than nothing. When I finished my breakfast, I got dressed, and went to hunt down my roomies, Ace, Drake and Lily. You see, Lily and I share the same room, but her bed's on the floor, and Ace and Drake share a room beside ours. We don't know who our parents are, but we don't let it bother us. We get a whole house to ourselves! It's in the middle of a secluded forest , so nobody knows we're here.
First, I run around the house knocking on Ace and Drake's door and the bathroom to no answer, so I grab my bow and quiver of arrows, strap my hunting knife to my thigh and head outside to find them and Lily. I look for signs of recent travels on the ground, then head in that direction. We don't have any roads around, or even a driveway, but we have a big clearing for open meetings, battle practice (you never know who'll show up!), ya know, that kinda thing. It looks like they were headed for our treehouse. No, not like those little cramped boxes nailed to the trees, what we have is a real treehouse. It's grown out of the pine tree! The tree is tall even for our forest, which has an average height of 100 feet, this pine tree towers over the rest by about 30 feet. There are stairs curling around the trunk all the way to almost the top of the tree, where there is a big room grown out of the tree which we use for meetings that it is absolutely necessary that no one overhears us, a surveillance room to see what might be hostile and headed our way, or just to hang out. It took a few minutes to make it up, even with my strength (It's a really tall tree!) to make it to the top, but I did eventually. I paused outside the door to make sure that it was really them, but then I heard something alarming.
"You see anything?" said Ace's voice.
"No. Hey, what's that black dot?" Replied Lily's voice from the other side of the room. "Oh my god, it's getting bigger, fast! Oh crap--!"
Crash! Someone's screaming, but I can't tell who. The whirling of helicopter blades, gusts of wind rushing around like a mini-tornado from the new gaping hole in the wall.
"Ace! Drake, Lily! Where are you?" I yell desperately into the wind, straining for any signs of them.
After what seemed like an eternity, I got a response. "Over here!" I recognized Drake's voice "Ace is trapped under a branch that blew in! I can't lift it myself." I followed the sound of his voice with one arm shielding my eyes from the airborne debris over to one corner of the room where I saw Ace pinned to the floor by a branch on his chest and one arm while Drake was desperately trying to get him out, but he just wasn't strong enough.
I got my arms under the branch and lifted it a foot off Ace while Drake pulled him out and leaned him against a wall.
Then, as suddenly as it began, the noise, wind and violent rocking of the tree stopped.
"Where's Lily?" I ask Drake. I leave no man or woman behind.
"I don't know; they carried her off with this big net. That's what caused this huge mess."
"Is Ace okay? Are you okay? What's the extent of the damage? Is the tree stable? Which direction did they go?
"Okay, one more question. Who's they?"

Hoping
